Description

The Organ Mountains are located just east of Las Cruces, New Mexico. They are an ever-present geological feature that dominates the city and surrounding area. Not being from Las Cruces (we moved here not too long ago), I’m not at all blasé about the Organs. In fact, they fascinate me. So much so that I’m almost always thinking about getting a better shot, a better angle, a way to capture the Organs without the clutter of civilization. So, that said, I wouldn’t be too surprised to find more images of the Organs being posted.
Oh, well…enough of that. Here are three of four factoids to make all this prose worthwhile. Pay attention, there may be a quiz later.
Organ Needle, at an elevation of 8,990 feet, is the highest point in the range. This area is considered "high desert" and the base of the mountains are at an elevation somewhere in the range of 4,000 to 4,500 feet above sea level. Fun fact, White Sands Missile Range is located just the other side of these mountains.
